Boundary Management Project

January 10, 2021
In July 2018 Covenant were contracted by the Messiah Burial Ground trustees to address the poor condition of a fence bordering their burial ground and 3 tenanted commercial units. Constructed in the 1970’s, the burial ground Trustees had observed the 30 meter fence deteriorating, being used for unauthorised advertising and suffering some vandalism.

Covenant devised two solutions. Firstly, Covenant replaced the fence. The full replacement of the fence with new concrete posts would have been costly. Instead Covenant were able to keep costs to a reasonable level by replacing only one of the concrete posts and salvaging others by re bedding with concrete. All cant rails and feather edge panels were replaced with new.

As you can see from the ‘before’ images (above) the trees bordering the fence had also caused bowing and had altered the trajectory of the fence over the years, causing it to become dilapidated.

Covenant constructed special frames to work independently of the trees, therefore allowing the fence to work with the contours of the land, trees and their root formations.

Secondly, Covenant provided their Boundary Management Service. Communicating with the commercial units bordering the burial ground Covenant issued letters of advice to the traders advising them of the restrictions and visited each one to inform them of the Boundary Management Service.

Finally, Covenant erected their standard Boundary Management signage to further advise on use and to deter vandals. Every quarter, Covenant visit site to take photos and where necessary advise traders of any breach in the use of the boundary fence. Informing the burial ground Trustees where necessary.
